Welcome to the Linn County Emergency Management Agency

We are the “what if” agency?  What if the “it can’t happen here” happens?    The mission of the Linn County Emergency Management Agency is to assure the coordination of the activities of City and County government, State and Federal entities, citizens, businesses, adjacent jurisdictions, and other disaster partners, to prepare for, respond to, recover from and mitigate major emergencies and disasters within Linn County.

Important News and Upcoming Events

Linn County Public Health is hosting an ICS-300 Intermediate Incident Command System for Expanding Incidents course September 21 and 22, 2010.   For more information click here.  

The Linn County Emergency Management Agency has implemented changes to the use of the outdoor alert warning (siren) system. Click here for the full press release.

KEY CHANGES:

•Re-sounding of sirens every 10-15 minutes while the condition continues

•Activating for severe thunderstorms with dangerous conditions of winds=> 70mph or hail=> golf ball size

•Possible activation of series of individual sirens (exception not the rule)

  

The Lumir E. Dostal, JR. Public Service Award

Ted Beuter is the 2009 recipient of the Lumir E. Dostal. JR. Public Service Award. The award was presented at the April 20 Emergency Management Commission Meeting by the Commission Chair Brian Gardner in recognition of Ted's 43 years of service.

This award is given in recognition of an unending pursuit of excellence in emergency preparedness and selfless devotion to protecting the health and safety of the public.  This award recognizes those who have st rived to meet the outstanding example of community service set by Lumir E. Dostal, JR. in his 40 years of public service and is given with much gratitude for their dedication and service.  

  

Emergency Notification System

CODE RED

The Linn County E 9-1-1- Board has instituted the CodeRED Emergency Notification System - an ultra high-speed telephone communication service for emergency notifications. This system allows public safety and emergency agencies to telephone all or targeted areas in case of an emergency situation that requires immediate action. The system is capable of dialing 50,000 phone numbers per hour. It delivers a recorded message to a person or answering machine, making three attempts to connect to any number.
